Bathroom Safety Tips
Vanity and Cabinets:
Use cabinet locks and latches on all drawers doors and cabinets in the bathroom.
Unplug and store in a cabinet any hair dryers, curling irons or electrical appliances that could become an electrocution hazard.
Any cleaning supplies, medication or toiletries should be stored in a cabinet with magnetic locks.
Move the waste basket under the sink and behind a locked cabinet door.
Bathtub or Shower:
Use a spout -cover guard to protect your child from bumping their heads in the bathtub.
Bathe your child in the opposite end of the tub from the faucet.
Set your thermostat on your hot water heater to no higher then 120 degrees, this can prevent scalding your child.
Always check the water temperature of a bath on your inner wrist before putting your child in.
Never leave your child unattended in the bath!
Use non-slip mats or stickers in the bathtub.
Remove all objects from the edge around your bathtub.
Never leave standing water in a tub or sink.
Toilet:
Install a toilet lock on all toilets in your home.
Discard any automatic toilet bowl cleaners.
Remove the toilet brush or place in a locked cabinet within the bathroom.
General:
Make sure your bathroom doors can be unlocked from the outside.
Use slip-proof mats or rug tape on rugs in the bathroom.
Dispose razors, and medication in a garbage outside the bathroom.
Install GFI electrical outlets on outlets near water.
In general the bathroom should be considered off limits to a toddler without adult supervision.
